Provide authentic simulated work experiences with Pathful's Industry-Led Projects

Problem-based, real-world work simulations co-designed with professionals, structured as FlexLessons, and flexible enough to fit your curriculum — with optional live industry mentorship and feedback.

Educators are increasingly seeking to expand work-based learning (WBL) beyond traditional CTE departments, bringing authentic real-world experiences to all students. But schools face real challenges: limited transportation, insufficient WBL placement options, a lack of truly industry-driven project-based materials, and students who need better preparation before entering workplace experiences. That challenge inspired us to collaborate with industry professionals to create Pathful's Industry-Led Projects — authentic, problem-based learning experiences that immerse students in the actual world of work. From project conception to assessment criteria, everything is developed in partnership with industry experts, complete with optional live mentorship and feedback sessions.

How we build Pathful's Industry-Led Projects

Industry-led project structure
Each project is carefully crafted through direct collaboration with working professionals who understand current industry challenges and practices. This partnership ensures students engage with realistic workplace scenarios while developing both the technical skills and the professional competencies essential for career success.

What does this look like?

Students follow a structured, five-phase workflow that mirrors real workplace project management: they begin by understanding project goals, conduct targeted research to address knowledge gaps, generate and evaluate multiple solution approaches, develop detailed implementation plans, and finally present professional recommendations to simulated industry leadership. Throughout, students take on specific industry roles — epidemiologists investigating disease outbreaks, financial analysts comparing company performance, engineers solving technical challenges — using the same tools, resources, and decision-making frameworks professionals use daily.

Accessing and using these resources

Industry-Led Projects are accessible through Pathful's Work-Based Learning menu, where they appear as FlexLessons under the Projects tab. Educators can assign projects directly, or students can self-select projects that align with their career interests. Each project includes a Teacher's Guide with detailed implementation instructions, flexible pacing options, assessment rubrics, and modification strategies for different classroom needs — and outlines how to request optional live industry mentorship sessions so students receive authentic feedback at key milestones. Projects are designed for collaborative work in teams of 2–4 students but include clear instructions for adapting to individual work, and the flexible structure lets educators implement these comprehensive 20+ hour experiences in ways that fit their schedules.

Enhanced learning through industry connections

For schools seeking the highest level of authenticity, Pathful offers optional live virtual sessions with industry professionals that must be requested in advance: kick-off meetings where professionals provide real-world context and success criteria, midpoint check-ins for guidance and problem-solving, and final presentations where students receive authentic feedback on their solutions — transforming the classroom into a genuine workplace environment.
