Breaking down Pathful's available assessments

Pathful offers five assessments, and it's easy to lose track of which one does what. Each measures something different: lifestyle goals, interests, work values, personality, or abilities. Knowing the difference helps you point a student toward the right one instead of just the first one they see.

Here's what each assessment actually measures, how long it takes, and what kind of results a student gets back.

Lifestyle Calculator

The Lifestyle Calculator is a powerful tool designed to help learners make informed decisions about their future by understanding the real-world financial implications of their lifestyle preferences. This innovative assessment starts with learners' desired way of life and works backward to show which career paths can support those goals. The calculator takes learners through a comprehensive evaluation of their housing preferences, lifestyle choices, and geographic preferences, then provides detailed financial projections and career matching based on their inputs.

• It takes approximately 15-25 minutes to complete.
• Learners receive personalized results showing expense breakdowns and compatible career paths.
• The tool integrates with other Pathful assessments to provide comprehensive career matching.
• Results include an interactive map interface with detailed financial projections.

The Lifestyle Calculator uses real-world data to help learners understand:

• Lifestyle Costs: Realistic expense breakdowns for different lifestyle preferences including housing, transportation, and entertainment.
• Housing Options: Interactive exploration of housing choices from apartments to home ownership in different regions.
• Geographic Impact: How location choices affect both lifestyle costs and available career opportunities.
• Career Matching: Which careers can realistically support their desired lifestyle based on salary requirements.
• Education Investment: Clear visualization of how educational choices impact earning potential needed for their lifestyle goals.
• Financial Planning: Introduction to budgeting concepts and long-term financial planning skills essential for career readiness.

The tool features an interactive map interface and provides detailed results showing potential career paths that align with both their lifestyle preferences and it can integrate results from other Pathful assessments, helping learners make confident, informed decisions about their future.

Career Cluster Interest Assessment (CCIA)

The Career Cluster Interest Assessment helps you identify your career interests and match them with the career clusters that fit you best. It's built around ACTE's modernized 14-cluster framework, a 2024 update to the career clusters system that better reflects how industries and skills are organized today.

• This assessment is based on ACTE's Career Interest Survey, Cluster by Cluster edition.
• Students move through all 14 career clusters, one section per page. For each cluster, you check off statements that sound like you across three categories: things I like to do, statements that describe me, and problems I want to solve in the world.
• There are 210 total statements across the 14 clusters, roughly 15 per cluster.
• There's no rating scale and no wrong answers. You simply check the statements that apply to you.
• Progress saves automatically, so you can pick up where you left off.
• Your results show your top-matching career clusters, which you can then use to explore specific careers, courses, and your Career Plan.

The CCIA replaces the Interest and Interest Lite assessments. Going forward, it's the only way to take a new career-interest assessment in Pathful.

Why we replaced Interest and Interest Lite

The previous career cluster assessments asked students to rate every statement on a scale, across more than 80 pages. That's a long, cognitively demanding experience, especially for younger students or anyone who finds a scored survey stressful.

The CCIA takes a different approach. Students move through one cluster at a time across just 14 pages, save their progress and return when ready, and simply check off the activities, traits, and problems that sound like them. No scale to interpret, no decision fatigue, just a straightforward prompt that works for a wider range of learners. That's not a "lite" version split off to the side. It's the standard experience, built for every student.

What happens to my old Interest or Interest Lite results?

Nothing is lost. If you already completed an Interest or Interest Lite assessment, you can still view those results below. You just can't start a new instance of either assessment going forward. If you want to explore your interests again, you'll do it through the CCIA.

Work Values (O*NET Work Importance Locator)

The Work Values assessment helps you identify what you value most in a job. By completing a series of questions about your preferences and priorities, the Work Values assessment generates a profile that highlights your top work values, such as achievement, independence, recognition, relationships, support, and working conditions. With this personalized profile, you can explore occupations that align with your core values, ensuring that your career choices are not only satisfying but also meaningful.

• There are 20 questions and no right or wrong answers.
• It takes about 20 minutes to complete.
• You will rank different aspects of work that represent six work values: Achievement, Independence, Recognition, Relationships, Support, Working Conditions.
• The O*NET Work Importance Locator helps individuals identify jobs that match their personal values and work preferences. By completing the WIL, users can discover what they find most important in a job and use this information to find occupations that align with their values.

Personality (O*NET Interest Profiler)

The Personality assessment is an invaluable tool for discovering careers that align with your personal interests. Using John Holland's RIASEC model, the Interest Profiler categorizes your interests into six broad areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. After completing the assessment, you'll receive a profile that highlights your strongest interest areas. The Interest Profiler then matches your profile with various occupations in the career database, providing detailed information about job duties, required skills, education requirements, and potential salaries. This tool empowers you to make informed career decisions based on what you truly enjoy.

• This survey, the O*NET Interest Profiler (O*NET IP), helps you identify your interests and how they relate to the world of work.
• There are 60 questions and no right or wrong answers.
• It takes about 10-30 minutes to complete.
• You will rank different aspects of work that represent six work values: Achievement, Independence, Recognition, Relationships, Support, Working Conditions.
• The O*NET Interest Profiler helps individuals identify their interests and match them with potential careers.

The Interest Profiler uses John Holland's RIASEC model, which categorizes interests into six broad areas:

• Realistic (R): Interests involving practical, hands-on problems and solutions.
• Investigative (I): Interests involving working with ideas and thinking analytically.
• Artistic (A): Interests involving creativity, self-expression, and artistic endeavors.
• Social (S): Interests involving working with, communicating with, and teaching people.
• Enterprising (E): Interests involving starting up and carrying out projects, often leading people and making decisions.
• Conventional (C): Interests involving following set procedures and routines, working with data and details.

Skills (O*NET Ability Profiler)

The Skills assessment assesses a range of cognitive, perceptual, and psychomotor abilities (not available online) to help you understand your strengths and weaknesses. The assessment includes tasks that measure verbal ability, arithmetic reasoning, spatial ability, and more. After completing the profiler, you'll receive a detailed profile of your abilities, which can be matched with occupations that require similar skills. This tool not only helps you identify jobs that align with your abilities but also highlights areas where you may need further development, guiding you toward additional training or education to achieve your career goals.

• This survey, the O*NET Ability Profiler, is a series of tests designed to match your abilities with potential careers.
• The results provide useful information that helps you identify your strengths. The results also help you identify training needs and occupations you may wish to explore further.
• You must be 16 years old to complete this test accurately. It is recommended that you not take this test more than once every 6 months. However, you can take the O*NET Ability Profiler more frequently.
• The total time needed to complete the test is 53 minutes. The test cannot be paused within a section, but each section of the test can be completed separately within its own time limit.
• The O*NET Ability Profiler is an assessment tool designed to help individuals understand their abilities and how these relate to various occupations. This tests students' abilities, instead of their interests.
• There are 6 sections available and each has its own time limit.
