Turn a Live Session Into a Classroom Highlight: Small Moves That Make a Big Difference

It’s the little things that bridge the gap between a "cool video" and a career-changing moment. Explore simple moves to make your next Pathful session the highlight of your students' week.

We looked at some of our favorite sessions this year and noticed a pattern — the ones that stood out had educators who did a few key things before, during, and after. Here's what we saw and how you can bring the same magic to your next session.

In another session, elementary students are glued to the screen as product engineer Matt Champlin takes them step by step through how a product goes from a rough sketch to a working prototype to a final tested design. They're seeing a career process most adults couldn't explain this clearly. (See the video here)

Two different grade levels. Two completely different topics. But the same result: sessions that stuck with students long after the screen went dark. So what did these sessions have in common?

Educators set the stage in ways that helped everything come together.

The Educator Effect

The professionals who volunteer their time for live sessions are incredible, but even the best presenter can only do so much without a strong setup. When educators take a few intentional steps, it transforms the experience for everyone: students get more out of it, presenters feel prepared and valued, and the session becomes something the whole classroom remembers.

Here's what we saw these educators do and what you can try for your next session.

They Prepared With Purpose

Both educators wrote clear, detailed session descriptions that gave their presenters a real sense of what the class was learning and what students were curious about. They included key questions directly from their students, which gave the presenter a head start on making the session relevant and gave students early ownership of the experience.

They also used Pathful's Comments and Send Message features to stay in touch with their presenter ahead of time, sharing expectations and context so everyone was on the same page before the session even started.

Why it matters for presenters: Our professionals are volunteering their time, and walking into a session with context makes all the difference. When a presenter knows what the class is studying and what students are curious about, they can tailor their examples, skip the generic intro, and jump straight into what resonates. That preparation shows respect for their time, and they notice.
By getting specific with your Pathful requests, you're doing more than filling out a form—you’re setting the stage for a connection that actually sticks. Sharing your students’ current projects or specific "why" helps our industry experts move past the script and deliver the real-world insights your classroom is hungry for. It’s the difference between a guest speaker and a true career mentor.

They Gave Students the Mic

In both sessions, educators created space for students to ask their own questions live. That shift, from watching to participating, is what turned these from great presentations into unforgettable experiences. When students feel like they're part of the conversation, the energy changes completely.

This also makes a presenter's job easier and more rewarding. Professionals tell us that live questions from students are the best part of volunteering. When educators encourage that interaction, presenters leave feeling like they made a genuine impact.

They Kept the Momentum Going

The best sessions have a ripple effect, and a quick follow-up can make all the difference. Whether it's a class discussion, a short reflection, or connecting the session back to a current unit, closing the loop helps students hold onto what they learned and see how it fits into the bigger picture.

Presenters also love to hear how the session landed. Use the Send Message feature to send a quick message through Pathful to the Presenter sharing student reactions, thank you notes, or favorite moments. It lets professionals know their time matters and makes them more likely to come back for future sessions. That feedback loop helps us all keep improving the experience together. Sometimes presenters will reach out to you first, so be on the lookout!

We're With You Every Step of the Way

Behind every great session is a team working to make it seamless. We match you with presenters who fit your students' needs and your learning goals. We prep professionals so they arrive informed and ready. We handle the logistics so you can focus on your classroom. And if anything needs to shift along the way, we're just a message away.

The best sessions happen when educators, professionals, and our team all work together and these two are a perfect example.
